Our mission is to encourage and support industry and governments to work cooperatively, promoting the adoption of proven, credible, integrated and sustainable national, regional and international oil spill response capability

OSPRI has been established by a group of oil companies, namely BP, Chevron, ENI, ExxonMobil, KMG, NCOC, Shell and Total – all major investors in the region.

The initiative is administered through IPIECA, the global oil and gas industry association for advancing environmental and social performance. OSPRI is a regional manifestation of an international effort - the Global Initiative - to promote oil spill preparedness, working closely with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and others. OSPRI and IMO have signed a Statement of Intent as a demonstration of our joint commitment:

OSPRI and IMO statement of intent

OSPRI does not replace individual operators' oil spill contingency planning. It is not a response organization providing resources to deal with oil pollution incidents. Rather it is an aligned effort amongst the members to ensure that the overall framework of oil spill preparedness at national, regional and international levels meets good practice and is effective.
